I recently tested out Boardbooster, which is an online Pinterest Automation Scheduler. My first impression is that it’s not very obvious what it actually does, but once I figured it out, it’s a pretty straightforward and effective tool for any Pinterest fanatic.

There are three main options to get you started:

Set and Forget with Campaigns

So Let Us Begin…

To begin automating a loop, click ‘Pinning Tools’ > ‘Campaigns’ > and then the New Campaign button.

After you click on New Campaign you’ll discover there are actually 3 choices of Campaign you can set up. Each of them is following a slightly different Pinterest Strategy but they all merit and are excellent additions to your Pinterest arsenal.

In this example I have created a Campaign called Pin the Perfect Wedding which posts 8 pins per day from 3 source boards.

The source boards can be anything from your own existing list of boards.

Random Campaign is hands down my Favourite!

Random Campaign is my favourite because it has two options. You can either pin from any of your existing boards to a different board, which offers a great way to amalgamate a selection of related pins into one nice big board, or you can opt for ‘List of Pins‘ instead of ‘List of Boards’ as your Source of Pins. This allows you to paste in a list of URLs to pin on a schedule. You can manually create a list of your favourite pins and paste them in or you can use an automated tool to gather the list of Pin URLs that you want to use as your pinning source. This feature for your Pinterest Strategy is awesome!

Scheduled Campaign is Drip Feeding Your Pinterest Account

A Scheduled Campaign takes pins from one secret board and repins them to multiple boards according to your schedule. This repin schedule can include repins to different boards over a number of days.  This strategy requires that you create Secret Boards and fill them up as and when you wish with content to post automatically on a schedule. If you use Tailwindapp then this Boardbooster Scheduled Campaign ties quite nicely in with the Tailwind App.

For example, if you blog about fashion and contribute to several fashion group boards, you can create “My Fashion finds” campaign that includes all your fashion group boards. Then whenever you post a new fashion find, simply pin it to the secret board that feeds “My Fashion finds” campaign. BoardBooster will repin it to each group board at the time that you configured. This is another great campaign option for curating the perfect Pinterest strategy.

Last but not Least – Pin Sourcing Campaign

Pin Sourcing Campaigns help you grow your boards by repinning the most successful pins from other people’s boards. All you need to do is configure a list of boards to monitor and specify the number of pins that you want to get from each board. Your Pin Sourcing Campaign can monitor any board on Pinterest and save its best performing pins to your Target Board.

  • Try to find a board that has plenty of pins. Otherwise your campaign will soon harvest all available viral pins and stop.
  • Compare the number of followers on these boards. It’s best to source pins from boards that have a lot of followers (ideally, 50K or more). Boards with a lot of followers tend to have more reliable performance metrics, which will help your campaign identify pins with great viral potential.

You can use source boards here , which can be any Pinterest board at all, but I chose mine directly from the BoardBooster suggestions, at: https://boardbooster.com/best-group-boards > Weddings

Stay ahead of your Competitors with Scheduler

Pin Sourcing Agents can help you fill your Secret Boards with pins that have great viral potential.

Board Monitor agents can save you a lot of time if you regularly repin from other Pinterest boards or group boards. If you are collecting pins on a specific topic, chances are you know what are some other leading boards on this topic. You can create a Board Monitor agent for any 3rd party board that you like. It will periodically open that board, find the pins with the highest number of repins, and automatically repin them to your Secret Board.

Once the new pins are added to your Secret Board you can edit their descriptions or delete anything that you don’t like. If you enable the Manual Approval option, Scheduler will not publish the pins sourced by this agent until you click the “Approve” button on the list of sourced pins, which is located in Scheduler.

Search Agents use Pinterest Search in order to find great new pins for your board using search keywords that you specify. You can provide multiple search keywords separated by comma, for example:

Oil painting, Aquarelle painting, Pencil drawing

Your search agent will periodically search Pinterest for each combination of keywords that you specified. Then it will repin the most viral pins to your secret board (the pins with the highest number of repins).

Once the new pins are added to your Secret Board you can edit their descriptions or delete anything that you don’t like. If you enable the Manual Approval option, Scheduler will not publish the pins sourced by this agent until you click the “Approve” button on the list of sourced pins, which is located in Scheduler.

Looping, Looping, Looping

The definition of Looping in Boardbooster is basically recycling pins to the same board. I’m not too keen on this unless you have a board with a massive amount of existing pins, otherwise it could look really spammy, really quickly. However, I do concede that it is good to get those older pins back out in the Pinterest wild for more exposure to new pinners and boards.

Getting Started: Set up LOOPING on BoardBooster
If you have a blog or website with a lot of content, then looping could be effective. You probably have a dedicated pinboard especially for your website or blog and if you don’t then you need to get yourself one. Having a dedicated pinboard for your site, makes it quick and easy to pin and repin your own posts directly. Once this is in place, with a good number of existing pins (I’d hazard a guess at a minimum 100 pins on that board!) then this could be a great place to start looping your pins.

So what are you waiting for… hop on over to BoardBooster and get scheduling.

The Pinning Tools Menu is the first one on the toolbar along the top right hand side of your screen. This is where most of the automated pinning magic happens.
So as with all things automated, there are some manual setup procedures involved, unlike Harry Potter, Gandalf or Merlin; I can’t wave a magic wand and make absolutely all my Pinning dreams immediately come true. I still have to prepare the groundwork. But even though that may make you sigh a little inside, the prep work can be fun and the automation afterwards will reap endless rewards (and hopefully lots of magic will happen… like an automated increase in followers, endless repinning and an effortless exodus into Pinterest Professionalism!)

So Let Us Begin…

To begin automating a loop, click ‘Pinning Tools’ > ‘Looping’ > and then the Add Boards button. The first step is to choose the board you want to loop (remember to make it one with loads of existing content), then hit that continue button.

If for some reason you don’t see the board you’re looking for (perhaps you newly added it), then you need to press the Refresh Boards button.

Refresh Boards
To Refresh your boards you’ll need to go to https://boardbooster.com/account and scroll to the bottom of the page where you will see the ‘Refresh Boards’ button. Click it and wait…. BoardBooster will connect to Pinterest and update it with all your boards, including any recent ones you’ve newly added. This can be a bit tedious and slow, so be patient and wait for it to do it’s thing.

Once you’ve clicked on Add Boards you will see this screen:

You will see a list of all the boards you currently have. You can click the checkbox to include the group boards you are a member of or leave them out. You can choose as many, or as few of your boards, to loop from as you like. Click the checkboxes and then press Continue:

You will then come to this complicated looking screen where you can configure your looping for your chosen boards. It is really not as complex as it looks.

Choose your optimal settings. Decide on how many pins a day you want to schedule and the time. You can keep things simple and go with a random delay to repin within the range you’d prefer. Alternatively you can leave the random delay at 0 to get it to repin at the exact same time each day. I believe random looks more natural and less automated than the exact same time each day.

In Pin selection ‘Chronological – oldest to newest’ is my preference so that the oldest pins on the board get repinned first.

So what are you waiting for… hop on over to BoardBooster and get scheduling.

Automatic deduplication is an example of a complex sounding option. In fact it is very simple. Decide if you want to delete the older pin after you’ve repinned it. This helps to keep your pinboard up to date, but not full of duplicates, in other words, less spammy. Many people prefer to disable this though, because deleting old pins that have been repinned and liked etc could possibly be bad for your Pinterest persona. There is a rumour that the Pinterest algorithm likes old pins and it can be good for your profile. You just never know when an old pin of yours may gain popularity. So it’s ultimately your choice, but if it’s a large board full of pins, then don’t go deleting the old ones.

This moves us nicely on to the next two options. You can actually protect your pins if they have comments or likes with ‘Protection for viral duplicates’. When this option is enabled you can choose to keep any pins that have more repins than you specify and you have full reign to specify the amounts. ‘Protection for pins with comments’ works in exactly the same way. BoardBooster won’t delete the pin with the X amount of comments you’ve specified. Of course, it will still repin the pin, it just won’t delete the older pin if the Automatic Deduplication is enabled.

The best thing about Boardbooster is the automation. You can settle in the knowledge that your pins are always going to be refreshed, repinned and posted from your site, even if you are busy enjoying life.
